Judiciary plays an integral role in a healthy democratic country. It is considered as a cornerstone for a thriving democracy. In India Judiciary is referred to as the third pillar of a Democracy. Judiciary in India is independent as making its judgements. In India ,Supreme Court is the supreme judicial authority.

The Constitution of India which was enacted in 26 January 1950 confers the power of judicial review with the hands of Supreme Court. Judicial Review is the supreme power of the judiciary to check the constitutional validity of the legislative enactments in the parliament.

This power of judiciary helps to reinforce the democratic Fabric of a country. It helps to maintain check and balance and to promote accountability and transparency in the institutions. If certain Provisions of legislative enactments are found to be violative of the constitution and the fundamental rights , here judiciary have the right declare it unconstitutional and void which can’t be enforced by the Government.

The power of Judiciary can be seen in the famous Landmark cases like Shankari Prasad vs Union of India, Sajjan Singh Vs Union of India, I.C Golaknath v State of Punjab And Keshavnanda vs State of Kerala .

The Concept of Judicial review was first laid in Madbury vs Madison which was a landmark case of Supreme Court .

Thus Judiciary is an important pillar and important institution in a Democracy as it provides a mechanism for solving disputes between people , state government and central government .
